Salvation Mountain is a unique and colorful hillside visionary environment created by Leonard Knight in the California Desert area of Imperial County, near Niland and the Slab City squatter/art commune. The artwork is made from adobe bricks, discarded tires, automobile parts, and thousands of gallons of paint, featuring numerous murals and Bible verses.

The Folk Art Society of America declared it a folk art site worthy of preservation, and it has been recognized as a national treasure. Despite the harsh desert environment, volunteers and visitors continue to help maintain and protect this vibrant landmark.
