The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is a breathtaking natural wonder located in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. This impressive canyon is approximately 24 miles (39 km) long, with depths ranging from 800 to 1,200 feet (240 to 370 m) and widths between 0.25 to 0.75 miles (0.40 to 1.21 km).
It is the first large canyon on the Yellowstone River downstream from Yellowstone Falls. The canyon showcases the park's complex geologic history through its dramatic colors and shapes. The Upper and Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River add to the grandeur of the canyon, with the Lower Falls dropping 308 feet (93 m) and the Upper Falls 109 feet (33 m).
The multi-hued rocks in the canyon result from hydrothermal alteration, making the rocks softer and more easily eroded by the river. Visitors can experience the canyon from various overlooks, trails, and walkways along the rims.
Popular trails include the Brink of the Lower Falls Trail and the Red Rock Points Trail, which offer stunning views of the canyon and its features.
